Our History

Kern & Tabery was founded in 1953 by Simon Kern, and his son-in-law Don Tabery. Their vast experience in the road construction industry inspired them to build their own business. Over the next decade, they were able to grow their company due to their excellent quality of work and solid reputation. During the 1970s, the growth of the company allowed for more earthwork that moved into building four-lane highways and bypasses around large cities. Their fleet of equipment grew with over 25 scrapers and support equipment and machinery.

In the 1980s finding large grading jobs was challenging which forced them to adapt and diversify into work that involved re-building roads and taking on other types of earthwork such as landfill expansions/closures, and wastewater pond construction.

In 1991 Simon retired, and his son Frank took over his role in managing the business. In 2000 Don also retired and his three sons, Kevin, Ken, and Keith took over his shares of the company. With Frank’s sudden passing in 2008, his shares were turned over to his son Brad.  In 2020, Ryan Tabery (Ken’s son) purchased his uncle Kevin’s shares of the business.

Today, Kern & Tabery is operated under Brad Kern, President, and Ryan Tabery, Vice President. They are proud to be a 3rd generation company that operates a modern fleet of GPS-assisted earthmoving equipment. A lot has changed for the company over the years, but hard work and dedication to our employees and clients has remained a constant.
